We provide practical, targeted support to help young people in and around Kettering access opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
Our focus is not on volume, but on impact. We look for situations where timely support can make a meaningful difference - removing barriers, unlocking potential and enabling progress.
Supporting Individuals
We work directly with young people who show ability, commitment or potential, but who face financial or practical constraints.
Support may include:
bursaries and grants to support education or training
funding for specialist coaching, equipment or materials
assistance with costs associated with school, college or further study
support that helps individuals take the next step into a chosen pathway
This is often about enabling continuity - ensuring that a lack of resources does not interrupt development at a critical stage.
What We Do
Supporting
Schools
We provide funding to schools across the Kettering area where additional support is needed beyond standard provision.
This includes:
contributions towards school trips and enrichment activities
support for pupils from families under financial pressure
funding for initiatives that enhance learning or broaden access
In many cases, this support allows schools to include students who might otherwise be excluded from valuable experiences.
Supporting Community Groups
We also work with local organisations that provide opportunities for young people outside the classroom.
This may involve:
funding for equipment, facilities or programme delivery
support for clubs, teams and initiatives that develop skills and confidence
backing for projects that widen access to education, sport or the arts
These partnerships allow us to extend our reach and support young people in environments where they can grow and thrive.
Govilon Learning & Activity Centre
A key part of our work is the Govilon Learning & Activity Centre in South Wales.
Each year, more than 1,000 pupils from Kettering schools attend residential visits, taking part in outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing and canoeing. These experiences help young people build confidence, resilience and independence, often by giving them the chance to try something new and challenge themselves in a supportive environment.
As the owner and operator of the centre, KOGSF is able to offer subsidised, charity-rate access to schools and community groups from Kettering and the surrounding area, helping ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation.
Govilon is also available for private hire by groups of all ages. Bespoke packages can be arranged, including catering and a wide range of professionally led activities such as hiking, climbing, abseiling, kayaking, potholing, orienteering and team-building.
The centre includes sleeping accommodation, a dining area, classroom space and a drying room, providing everything groups need for a comfortable and practical residential stay
How we decide
We take a considered, case-by-case approach to funding.
Every application is assessed on:
the potential benefit to the individual or group
the level of need
the likelihood that support will lead to meaningful outcomes
Our aim is simple - to use the Foundation’s resources where they will have the greatest long-term impact.
A practical approach to opportunity
We do not provide support for its own sake.
We step in where there is a clear gap - where a relatively small intervention can open up a much larger opportunity.
Whether supporting an individual, a school or a community group, the principle remains the same: remove the barrier, and allow potential to move forward.
