Support for Individuals
KOGSF provides grants and bursaries to help young people access opportunities that support their education, development and future ambitions. This page will walk you through the types of support available, eligibility criteria and provide guidance on completing your application.
Who can apply?
You can usually apply for individual support if you are:
under the age of 25
living in the Borough of Kettering
attending, or have previously attended for at least two years, an educational institution in the Borough of Kettering.
KOGSF provides grants and bursaries to help young people access opportunities that support their education, development and future ambitions.
We know that applying for support can sometimes feel daunting. The online form will guide you through the process step by step, and you do not need to have everything perfectly worded before you begin. If you are unsure whether you can apply, or need help at any stage, please contact us. We are always pleased to help.
Grants
A grant is usually a one-off payment to help with a specific educational purpose. This could include support with college, university or another opportunity that helps a young person move forward.
Grants are generally considered where a young person or their family is facing financial pressure, or where a young person is financially independent and would struggle to continue their education without additional support.
Applications should usually be supported by a letter of recommendation from a school, tutor or another suitable person who knows the young person and understands the opportunity being applied for.
Bursaries
A bursary may be awarded to a young person who shows exceptional talent or commitment in an area such as sport, the arts, education or another field of development.
Bursaries are only considered for young people who live in Kettering or the former Borough of Kettering. They may support training, performing, competing or other activities over a longer period of time.
Before making a decision, the Foundation may invite the young person and their parent or guardian to a meeting. This helps us understand the opportunity, the support needed and how funding could make a meaningful difference.
Bursaries are usually awarded for a particular academic year and paid in three termly instalments. Progress updates may be requested during the year, and continued support is reviewed annually.
What happens after you apply?
Once your application has been submitted, it will be checked by the Foundation’s office. If anything is missing or unclear, we may contact you for more information.
Applications are then reviewed by the Benefits Committee before being passed to the board of trustees for a final decision. The trustees meet quarterly, in June, September, December and March.
If you are applying for a bursary, you may be invited to meet with the Foundation, together with a parent, guardian, tutor or coach. This gives us the opportunity to understand your ambitions, the support you need and how a bursary could help.
After a decision has been made, the Foundation’s office will contact you to let you know the outcome.
Please note that grants and bursaries cannot usually be awarded for costs that have already been paid or committed before an application is approved.
